The open-type IPX5 IPX6 water jet test equipment is designed for water ingress testing of electrical and electronic products in accordance with IEC 60529.

It uses 6.3 mm and 12.5 mm handheld nozzles for IPX5 and IPX6 testing, together with adjustable water flow, a 550 L stainless-steel water tank and a 600 mm rotating specimen table. The open design provides flexible operation for specimens of different sizes and shapes. Configurations can be adapted to suit specimen dimensions, test requirements and laboratory conditions. An optional IPX6K configuration is also available in accordance with ISO 20653:2023.

IPX5 and IPX6 tests evaluate the resistance of products to water jets applied from different directions.

During testing, the operator directs the specified handheld nozzle toward the specimen while the turntable rotates to support uniform exposure. The open-type configuration is particularly suitable for large, fixed or irregularly shaped specimens that may not be convenient to test in an enclosed chamber.

Water pressure is adjusted to achieve and maintain the specified flow rate. The test duration is calculated according to the enclosure surface area, excluding the mounting surface.

How the Test Is Performed

1. Select the Test Level

Select IPX5 or IPX6 according to the applicable standard or test requirement.

2. Prepare the Specimen and Nozzle

Install the 6.3 mm nozzle for IPX5 or the 12.5 mm nozzle for IPX6. Place the specimen securely on the rotating table and connect the specimen power supply when energized testing is required.

3. Adjust the Flow Rate and Test Time

Start the water supply system and adjust the flow rate to the specified value. Set the test duration according to the specimen surface area and applicable test requirements.

4. Perform the Water Jet Test

Keep the nozzle approximately 2.5–3.0 m from the specimen and apply the water jet from all practical directions while the specimen rotates.

5. Check the Test Result

After the test, inspect the specimen for water ingress and assess the result according to the applicable product standard.

Installation Requirements

As an open-type water jet test equipment, the BND-IPX56A should be installed in a suitable waterproof testing area.

The installation site should provide:

  • Adequate floor drainage
  • Protection against water splash
  • A stable water supply
  • Sufficient operating space for the handheld nozzle
  • Appropriate electrical supply
  • A level floor capable of supporting the equipment and water tank

The required installation area depends on the specimen dimensions, nozzle distance, and water tank arrangement.

Is This the Right Configuration?

What is the difference between IPX5 and IPX6 testing?

IPX5 uses a 6.3 mm nozzle with a water flow of 12.5 L/min. IPX6 uses a larger 12.5 mm nozzle with a water flow of 100 L/min, producing a much stronger water jet.
