ISO 11640 Double-Station Electric Crockmeter – BONAD Rubbing Colour Fastness Tester

Key Application:

This Crockmeter is specifically designed for determining the color fastness of leather and textiles to rubbing (crocking). It is crucial for:

  • Quality control in leather goods production (shoes, bags, furniture).
  • Ensuring textile durability and color retention in apparel and home furnishings.
  • Verifying material compliance with international safety and quality standards.
  • Research and development of new materials and dyes.
  • Testing footwear components and accessories.

Test Principle:

The Double-Station Electric Crockmeter operates by subjecting the surface of the test specimen to repeated, reciprocating rubbing motions under controlled pressure. A standard wool felt abrasive pad is mounted on the rubbing finger. For wet testing, the felt is saturated with distilled water according to the standard. The test piece is securely held in place while the rubbing finger moves back and forth over it for a specified number of cycles. After testing, the color fastness is evaluated by comparing:

  1. The change in color of the test specimen using a Grey Scale for color change.
  2. The degree of color staining transferred to the white rubbing cloth (wool felt) using a Grey Scale for staining.
  3. Any visual damage to the specimen’s surface is also recorded.

Conforming Test Standards:

This Double-Station Electric Crockmeter is engineered to meet the requirements of major international standards for rubbing fastness testing, including:

  • ISO 11640: Leather – Tests for colour fastness – Colour fastness to rubbing
  • DIN 4843: Testing of leather; determination of the colour fastness of leather against rubbing
  • SATRA PM 173: Colour fastness to rubbing (crocking)
  • QB/T 2537: Footwear – Test methods for uppers, lining and insocks – Colour fastness to rubbing (Industry Standard – China)
  • GB/T 20991 section 7.3: Personal protective equipment – Footwear – Test method for uppers, lining and insocks; Colour fastness to rubbing (National Standard – China)
  • EN ISO 20344 section 7.3: Personal protective equipment – Test methods for footwear (Identical to ISO 20344; Includes crocking test)
  • AS/NZS 2210.2 section 7.3: Occupational protective footwear – Test methods (Includes crocking test; Australia/New Zealand)
  • ISO 17700 Method A: Footwear – Test methods for uppers, lining and insocks – Colour fastness to rubbing (Identical to QB/T 2537, GB/T 20991 7.3, EN ISO 20344 7.3)
