- EN 71-1: Safety of toys – Part 1: Mechanical and physical properties
- Retailer Specific:
- M&S P115A (Marks & Spencer)
Applications:
Ideal for testing the attachment strength of:
- Buttons, snaps (prong-ring, sew-on, press), rivets, and zipper pulls on garments, uniforms, and footwear.
- Decorative ornaments, appliqués, and fasteners on textiles and apparel.
- Small parts and attachments on toys to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Similar attachments on luggage, bags, and leather goods.
Key Features & Benefits:
- Robust & Reliable: Simple mechanical structure (force gauge, stand, grips) ensures low failure rates and long service life.
- Operator Ergonomics: Ergonomic handwheel design provides comfortable and precise control during force application and sample positioning.
- Precision Measurement: Configured with high-accuracy analog or digital force gauges for reliable, repeatable test results.
- Modular Design: Force gauge, control rod, and grips can be easily installed, removed, and replaced, simplifying maintenance, grip changes, and transport.
- Unmatched Versatility: Comes standard with a comprehensive set of interchangeable upper grips (e.g., Long Nose Vise, Three-Pronged Grip, Button Grasp Grip, Universal Grip, Stud Clamp) to handle diverse attachment types.
- Multi-Functional: Beyond button/snap pull tests, suitable for small-scale tensile and compression tests using specialized fixtures.
- Compliance Built-In: Manufactured using top-grade materials and craftsmanship, adhering strictly to relevant international testing standards.
- Easy Operation: Intuitive design minimizes training time and ensures consistent testing procedures.
Why Testing is Critical:
Loose buttons or snaps are not just quality defects – they pose significant safety risks, especially on children’s clothing and toys where small parts can become choking hazards. Our Button Snap Pull Tester enables manufacturers to rigorously test attachment strength during product development and finished goods inspection, ensuring all components meet specified safety requirements before reaching consumers.
Test Principle:
- Sample Preparation: The fabric sample with the attachment (button, snap, etc.) is placed on a circular rubber pad.
- Securing: A ring-shaped fixture clamps the fabric, positioning the attachment centrally and upright.
- Gripping: A matched upper grip, connected to a precision force gauge, is lowered via an ergonomic handwheel to securely grasp the attachment.
- Applying Force: The operator turns the handwheel, applying a controlled upward pulling force:
- Method A (Destructive): Force is continuously increased until the attachment fails (breaks or detaches). The maximum force recorded is the breaking/pull strength.
- Method B (Holding): A specified constant force is applied for a defined duration. The sample is then inspected for detachment or damage; the pass/fail state is recorded.
